Hi, I'm Colton,

I'm a recently retired goaltender who spent 20+ years in the game, from house league to the pro level. Along the way I earned nearly a decade of AAA hockey with OMHA, GTHL and OHF championships, three-plus seasons in the OHL with the Niagara IceDogs and Windsor Spitfires, five years of OUA hockey with the Guelph Gryphons, and brief pro opportunities in the ECHL with Greenville and Cincinnati. Getting there took more than two decades of work, sacrifice, and setbacks. Even with chances to keep playing, I stepped away from the game I loved to build a career around what I'm now most passionate about: coaching and mentoring goalies.

My childhood goal was to play in the NHL. I didn't get there, but I made the most of every opportunity I earned. I was never the biggest, fastest, or most gifted. My career was built on preparation, adaptability, and persistence. I lived nearly every role a goalie can face: starter, backup, EBUG, healthy scratch, injured, and the guy fighting to earn one more shot. I know what it feels like to play every night, to sit for weeks, and to compete for time while wondering where the game would take me.

Hockey gave me far more than a résumé.

It gave me humility, perspective, gratitude, and lifelong friendships. I won a lot, lost a lot, but never lost my passion for it.

Most goalie coaching stops at drills and technique. On-ice work is essential, and I still offer it, but the biggest gains happen off the ice: the thinking, planning, and honest conversations. Ice time should be for training. Everything else should happen away from it.

That's where I come in.

Trust Your Instincts Goaltending (TYI) specializes in what happens between ice sessions: video analysis, game and practice breakdowns, and ongoing mentorship. These are the conversations goalies can't always have openly with their team, parents, or goalie coach. TYI gives athletes and their families an independent, experienced, and honest place to have them.

I help goalies navigate:

  • Life as a starter or backup

  • Tryout preparation

  • Practice habits

  • Game review

  • Mental strength

  • Off-ice training

  • Equipment optimization

  • Lifestyle and habits

  • Career building

  • Balancing education
